Methodology
Context-Design Coaching: environment first, then the inner work sticks.
Leadership development optimizes the individual by fostering better habits, a better mindset, and greater resilience. It frames struggle as a personal deficit. Context-Design Coaching starts from a different premise: most executive performance problems stem from context-capacity misalignments, where the demands of the role or the organization have shifted faster than the person's regulatory and communication capacity. Fix the context first, and the individual's work becomes sustainable rather than a constant uphill battle to compensate.
How it works — three phases
- 01
Developing Awareness
The leader learns to see the actual context that generates their struggle, including the pace, the fragmentation, and the relational dynamics, while addressing the specific, tactical need that brought them to coaching in the first place. Diagnosis and action happen together here, not diagnosis first and action later: this shifts the story from personal failure to an accurate read of a genuinely difficult environment, with real movement from session one.
- 02
Recognizing Signals
The leader identifies early signs that the environment and their current capacity are out of alignment. Constriction, scattered focus, and hypervigilance become useful nervous-system data to interpret rather than weaknesses to override.
- 03
Redesign and Action
Awareness becomes a deliberate business decision. The leader identifies what they can influence, communicates their needs to those who can act, and chooses among three real options: redesign the context, stay and accept the cost consciously, or exit.
The Diagnostic Loop
The repeatable tool coach and leader use together, especially in Phase 1, to move from confusion to clarity. Five steps:
- 01
State
What's happening internally, without judgment
- 02
Context
What in the environment is generating it
- 03
Pattern
Recurring, or one-off
- 04
Time
Acute, or chronic
- 05
Choice
Redesign, accept consciously, or exit
Then the loop repeats — each pass sharpens the diagnosis.

If your leadership development spend isn’t reflected in performance data, the coaching model is likely the problem, not the executive. Let’s talk.
